The Form of Utilization of Environmental Services Through Gamalama Ecotourism by the Social Forestry Group in Moya Sub-District, Ternate City

Abstract

This study aims to examine the utilization of environmental services through ecotourism activities carried out by the Cahaya Gamalama Social Forestry Business Group (KUPS) in Ternate City. The main focus of this study is how this group manages the potential of environmental services to support nature conservation while improving the welfare of the surrounding community. The objectives of this study are to identify the forms of environmental service utilization through Gamalama ecotourism by KUPS Cahaya Gamalama and to identify the obstacles to environmental service utilization through Gamalama ecotourism by KUPS Cahaya Gamalama. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The results of this study indicate that KUPS Cahaya Gamalama utilizes environmental services in the form of natural beauty, cool air, and environmental education potential through nature tourism activities such as hiking trails, educational camping, and locally-based tour guides. This utilization has a positive impact in terms of environmental conservation, strengthening the local economy, and increasing public awareness of the importance of preserving the Gamalama mountain ecosystem. However, the development of ecotourism still faces challenges such as limited facilities, human resource capacity, and policy support. Therefore, synergy between the community, government, and private sector is urgently needed to achieve sustainable ecotourism management.
