Abstract

Optimizing land capacity for agricultural activities is necessary to maximize land capacity and suitability for the development of shallot (Allium cepa var. aggregatum L.) cultivation in Barru Regency. This is a crucial aspect of agricultural crop cultivation. This is because it will identify supporting factors that are suitable or unsuitable for shallot farming development. The objective of this research is to optimize the capability and suitability of land for shallot cultivation by minimizing limiting factors that can affect shallot growth. The method used is an exploratory field survey method, and the results of GIS analysis, in the form of the use of Land Map Units (SPL). The SPL results from an overlay of a combination of four maps: a land use map, a soil type map, a slope map, and a forest area status map were processed using Arc View GIS 10.3. Analysis of the combination of primary data, secondary data and laboratory data analysis in the form of land characteristic data, then overlay is carried out in the form of shallot growing requirements. The research results obtained; suitability class S1,S2, S3 (marginally suitable) and N (not suitable), also obtained the results of suitability class N, it does not mean that the Mallusetasi District area is not suitable for the development of shallot cultivation, but it is necessary to improve the limiting factors so that the development of shallots can still be carried out...
