Abstract

This study aims to formulate a strategy for the sustainable development of agroforestry in Sohuwe Village, East Taniwel District, West Seram Regency, Maluku. The agroforestry system, which has been practiced for generations by the local community, provides significant ecological, economic, and social benefits. However, several challenges hinder its sustainability, such as declining soil fertility, commodity price fluctuations, and limited access to technology and capital. The study employs both qualitative descriptive and quantitative approaches using SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis and the Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM) to determine strategic priorities. The results indicate that the agroforestry system in Sohuwe Village plays a vital role in soil conservation, increasing farmers' income, preserving biodiversity, and meeting local food needs. The SWOT analysis produced four main strategies: strengthening local institutions, developing farmers' capacity, improving access to markets and technology, and fostering synergy among stakeholders. The priority strategy identified through QSPM analysis is enhancing farmers’ capacity through training and extension services in adaptive and sustainable agroforestry technologies. These findings highlight the importance of participatory and collaborative approaches in developing agroforestry systems that consider not only ecological aspects but also the economic and social dimensions of the community. The study’s recommendations are expected to serve as input for local governments, NGOs, and educational institutions in promoting sustainable community-based forest resource management.
