Dodola Island, located in Morotai Regency, North Maluku, is one of Indonesia’s priority marine tourism destinations. However, tourist comfort has been increasingly disrupted by insect bites that cause itching and skin irritation. This study aims to identify insect species responsible for these symptoms and to develop environmentally friendly control strategies through the innovative Asta Cita approach. A quantitative experimental method supported by literature review was employed, with insect sampling conducted using yellow traps and sweep nets across several sites on Dodola Island. Laboratory identification was performed morphologically using a stereo microscope and taxonomic keys. The results revealed three dominant species: midges (Culicoides spp.), mosquitoes (Anopheles spp.), and shore flies (Hydrellia spp.). Among them, Culicoides spp. caused the most intense itching and irritation, while Anopheles spp. produced mild allergic reactions and Hydrellia spp. had no significant effects. The Asta Cita framework effectively integrated ecological analysis with innovative and sustainable solutions for insect management. The findings provide practical insights for tourism managers and policymakers to implement integrated vector control strategies and to enhance visitor awareness of preventive measures against insect bites, contributing to the sustainability of tropical ecotourism destinations.
