Abstract

This study was conducted using experimental fishing methods over a period of three months, from December 2022 to February 2023, in Kasuba Village, South Maba District, East Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. The objective of this study was to investigate the population dynamics of selar tetengkek fish in the waters of Maba Selatan. Data collection was conducted directly from fishermen's catches to obtain primary data through direct observation, interviews, and active participation by observing the fishing activities or processes firsthand. Furthermore, to obtain a clearer picture, supporting data was required as comparative data by collecting literature to obtain important information needed from books (references) related to this study, thereby obtaining complete data. The research results indicate that the population dynamics of the selar tetengkek fish have an infinite length (L∞) of 41.48 cm and a growth rate (K) of 0.400 per year, with to = -5.91 per month. The total mortality rate (Z) is 1.57 per month, natural mortality (M) is 0.60, and the mortality rate due to fishing (F) is 0.97 per month. The exploitation rate is E = 0.62, indicating that the exploitation rate of selar tetengkek fish in the waters of Southern Maba has a tendency toward overfishing.
