Identification of Rehabilitation Plant Species for the Watershed Area of PT. Adidaya Tangguh in West Halmahera Regency

Abstract

According to 2024 Ministry of Forestry data, the total area of critical land in Indonesia stands at 12,294,321 hectares, with 473,932 hectares falling under the operational jurisdiction of the North Maluku Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS). To restore and rehabilitate damaged watershed ecosystems, the government mandates that all holders of Forest Area Utilization Approvals (PPKH) carry out watershed rehabilitation planting activities. One such PPKH holder, PT. Adidaya Tangguh, has implemented watershed rehabilitation planting across 215.85 hectares within the Mount Tabobo Protected Forest Area in South Jailolo District, West Halmahera Regency. This study aimed to identify the plant species used for watershed rehabilitation and analyze their compositional percentages. Data were collected using fifteen 25 m x 40 m sample plots and analyzed to determine the percentage composition of each species found. Observations across the 15 sample plots revealed four species used by PT. Adidaya Tangguh for watershed rehabilitation: nutmeg (*Myristica fragrans*) with 638 plants (68.6%), clove (*Syzygium aromaticum*) with 74 plants (7.95%), canary nut (*Canarium indicum*) with 72 plants (7.75%), and white *Samama* (*Neolamarckia cadamba*) with 40 plants (4.3%); additionally, 102 plants (11.4%) were found to be dead. A total of 828 plants were recorded. The results indicate that the survival rate of the plants was 88.6%, while the mortality rate was 11.4%.
