Spawning Time of Sandfish, Holothuria scabra in Taar Village

Sandfish, Holothuria scabra is a marine commodity that is exported as a high-value food ingredient, medicinal ingredient and cosmetic ingredient. Sandfish cultivation has begun to be developed intensively in Tual City, Maluku. Breeding and spawning are key factors supporting intensive sandfish cultivation. This study aims to determine the spawning time of the sandfish, H. scabra, so that optimal timing for Breeding can be determined. The study took place from July to September 2025. Broodstock samples were collected from the waters of Taar Village and spawned at the Sea Cucumber Hatchery, Tual Teripang Center. Spawning was stimulated by manipulating the environment (temperature). Each spawning sandfish was separated from the spawning tank and the number of spawning parents and eggs laid was counted. The results of the study showed that sandfish in Taar village that were stimulated during the study period could spawn at a rate of 35-70% so that sandfish breeding could be carried out in July-September. In addition, it is also known that the average number of eggs produced is 300,000 – 1,550,000 eggs / female individual.
