Enhancing Productivity Through the Application of Innovative Cultivation Practices for Curly Chili and Tomato on Horticultural Farmers’ Land in Wasile, East Halmahera Regency

This Community Service Program (PKM) was designed to address the low productivity of horticultural crops in Wasile District, East Halmahera, due to farmers’ limited knowledge of sustainable cultivation techniques and organic material management. The main objective was to improve the productivity of curly chili (Capsicum annuum L.) and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) through the application of bio-based agricultural innovations. The program adopted a participatory approach involving training, workshops, and field demonstrations on the production and utilization of biochar and liquid organic fertilizers. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test evaluations, field observations, and yield measurements. The results indicated a 90% increase in farmers’ knowledge and skills, accompanied by a 12.7% rise in chili productivity and noticeable yield improvements in tomato plots. These findings highlight the effectiveness of biochar and organic fertilizer integration in enhancing soil fertility and crop performance. It is recommended that such innovations be scaled up across other horticultural areas to promote sustainable and eco-friendly farming systems in East Halmahera.
